Directorate of Academic Planning and Statistics

The Directorate of Academic Planning and Statistics plays a strategic role in the academic growth and institutional development of Emmanuel Alayande University of Education. The Directorate is responsible for coordinating academic policies, planning, and ensuring data-driven decision-making across the university.

The current and Pioneer of this directorate is Professor Olajide which has dedicated his career to advancing adult education and community development in Nigeria.

The Directorate of Academic Planning and Statistics (DAPS) at Emmanuel Alayande University of Education (EAUED), Oyo, is the "nerve center" for institutional data and long-term academic strategy. While the Registrar handles student files and the Bursar handles money, DAPS focuses on quality assurance and ensuring the university meets the standards of the National Universities Commission (NUC).

1. Leadership

The pioneer Director of Academic Planning and Statistics is Professor Olajide Sogunle. A respected academic, he is tasked with the critical role of guiding the institution's academic growth following its transition from a College of Education to a full-fledged University.

2. Core Functions: The "Brain" of the University

The directorate operates behind the scenes to ensure the university runs efficiently. Its main duties include:

  • Accreditation Coordination: DAPS is responsible for preparing every department for NUC accreditation visits. They ensure that classrooms, staff strength, and curricula meet the "Minimum Academic Standards" required to award degrees.

  • Data Management & Statistics: The directorate collects and analyzes data on student enrollment, staff-to-student ratios, and graduation rates. This information is used for the University Statistical Digest, which helps management make informed decisions about hiring and expansion.

  • Academic Calendar Planning: They play a key role in drafting the official university academic calendar, balancing lecture weeks, exam periods, and holidays.

  • Curriculum Development: Before a new department or course is launched, DAPS evaluates the proposal to ensure it is academically sound and relevant to the labor market.

  • Liaison with Regulatory Bodies: DAPS serves as the official link between EAUED and bodies like the National Universities Commission (NUC), JAMB, and TETFund.

3. Why It Matters to Students and Staff

  • For Students: DAPS ensures that the degree you are studying for is fully accredited and recognized globally. They monitor the quality of teaching and the adequacy of facilities (like labs and libraries).

  • For Staff: The directorate manages staff workload statistics and helps coordinate research grants and training opportunities through bodies like TETFund.

4. Strategic Importance

As a new university, EAUED must prove its "institutional effectiveness." DAPS is responsible for the University Academic Brief, a master document that outlines the university's mission, its planned growth over the next 10–20 years, and its physical and academic requirements.
